St Austell Print Entry

Although nowadays it resides under the care of the National Trust and the St Aubyn family, legend has it that

St Michael's Mount was built by the giant, Cormoran and his wife, using heavy blocks of granite from Mount's Bay. Cormoran was later trapped and killed by a young boy called Jack and it's said that the giant's heartbeat can still be heard today. This illustration plays with perspective, creating the illusion of two little girls being larger than the Mount and therefore, capturing the magic and wonder of the legend as they play in the sand.

I created this illustration as an entry for the annual St Austell Print calendar in response to the theme:

Land, Sea and Air.
